Your time at RIMS should be enjoyable and rewarding, and it is important that it should not be spoiled by unnecessary financial worries. Although finance has become an increasingly complex issue for current and prospective students, our aim at RIMS is to provide you with information on awards, financial planning and loans. Grants for living costs are no longer available except for some limited allowances.
Student Loans
Loans are available to full-time home students on higher education undergraduate programmes of at least one academic year, provided that students start their pro-gramme at the age of 54 or under. Next to the interest-free overdrafts offered by the high street banks on student accounts, the student loan is the cheapest form of borrowing. Students repay their loans entirely on the basis of their level of income after they graduate.
Hardship Loans
New students who find themselves in financial hardship may have access to a supplementary loan of £500 from the Student Loans Company after they have taken out the maintenance loan.
Trusts and charities
The Student Services department has information from a number of charities and trusts which offer small grants to specially selected groups. Please see the Student Finance and Money Management booklet for more details.
